FAQ

Q. Do I need to know how to sail?

A. No, experience is not necessary, but you may be asked to 'muck-in' and help with the sailing of the boat.

Q. Is it all about whisky?

A. Not at all. Some trips will be just for the pure pleasure of sailing and seeing new places.

Q. Is it all fast action and grinding winches and hoisting sails and getting soaked?

A. Definitely not, this will be a chilled relaxing trip, not like you see in boat racing on TV.

Skipper Mike much prefers a slower pace of life.

Q. How many people are on a trip?

A. Most trips are 'whole boat', so the price quoted is for the full boat and as many people as you'd like up to a limit. Five if it's a day sailing, or four if the cabins are needed during longer trips. Some trips are 'per cabin' and can fit two people, or you can have it to yourself. The boat can take more than this, but it is much more comfortable with less.

Q What if there is bad weather?

A. At worst, severe weather may cancel a trip. Bad weather may stop us heading out to sea but can still remain on board.

Cancellations by us will result in a full refund. In bad weather and you are on board, we will discuss what the options are.

Q. Will I have to share?

Longer trips which are at least two days may be shared with others unless you have booked the whole boat. You will not share a cabin with anyone you don't know unless stated on the trip.

Q. What are the age limits?

A. People under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Q. Is there a toilet and shower?

A. Yes, there are two toilets and a shower although the shower isn't great. We will likely stop in a town or marina with shower facilities. Some showers in towns require a small payment.

Q. What's included?

A. Food (A light lunch on a day sail), soft drinks, fuel, berthing fees, bed linen, duvets, pillows. Whisky drams if part of a tasting trip.

Q. What's not included?

A. Meals ashore, whisky distillery tours unless requested. Tours can be arranged on request. Travel to the yacht. Waterproof clothing, although some spares may be there to borrow. Some showers need coins to operate in towns we visit.

Q. What should I wear?

Being Scotland, it's not terribly warm and the wind can cut you in two. Bring base layers, jumpers, neck snoods, beanies, gloves and waterproof jackets and trousers (overtrousers are ok), soft shoes.

Q. What else should I bring?

A. For day sailing, tales and stories.

For overnights: Towel; head torch. You will receive joining information once you book.

Q. Do I have to cook?

A. You don't have to, but it would help out the skipper, especially if they're busy sailing the boat. If you're lucky enough to have trainee chef Ciaran on board, he'll cook us all up some lovely meals.

Q. What's the food like?

A. If you have any dietary requirements, we will cater for that. Otherwise, skipper Mike or Ciaran will rustle something up for you.

Usually light lunches (soup and sandwich, or similar) with snacks, and a hot meal on board in the evening. You are welcome to eat ashore at your own cost.

Q. Are there phone chargers on board?

A. Yes, but not in the cabins, only in the saloon

Q. I'm worried about being seasick

A. There's things we can do to help with seasickness. Let the crew know and we'll do what we can to help, we know how miserable it can be.

Q. Will I have to clean the boat after the trip?

A. No, we will do that

Q. How do I pay for the trip?

A. Contact us to discuss timings. Normally we will supply you with a bank sort code and account number for a BACS transfer. We may be able to send a 'payment link' to pay with Apple Pay. You will receive a receipt.

Q. Can I cancel the trip?

A. Yes, we understand things can happen, we are also quite flexible and refunds are not usually an issue unless it is within a week of the trip. We would recommend you take out holiday insurance that covers sailing just in case.
